Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Under the direction and supervision of the librarian, the Instructional Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the librarian as needed. Main roles include student supervision and building relationships with students, managing the circulation, maintenance, and organization of library materials, hosting storytimes, and assisting library patrons as needed. The Instructional Assistant works under the librarian\u2019s supervision and collaborates closely with library staff to fulfill responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities and Duties<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Supervises students in the library, frequently engaging them in discussions about reading, creativity, research, and behavior.<\/li>\n
  • Assists students and library patrons with research, locating materials, and using library resources.<\/li>\n
  • Assists with library material circulation, including check-ins and check-outs.<\/li>\n
  • Organizes and shelves library materials, maintaining the organization of the library space.<\/li>\n
  • Catalogs, processes, and maintains library materials.<\/li>\n
  • Manages the Makerspace (supply replenishment, organization, purchasing).<\/li>\n
  • Hosts Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten lessons\/story time sessions.<\/li>\n
  • Supervises activities that do not require a teacher\u2019s presence.<\/li>\n
  • Assists the librarian with various tasks or special projects.<\/li>\n
  • Generates and distributes statements and notices for library patrons.<\/li>\n
  • Manages lost book money collection.<\/li>\n
  • Designs and creates engaging library displays.<\/li>\n
  • Oversees the Library Management System (patron accounts, parents, shelf marker\/library cards, classroom accounts).<\/li>\n
  • Maintains cooperative, positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.<\/li>\n
  • Learns and applies relevant RAS policies, rules, and regulations with good judgment in a variety of situations.<\/li>\n
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Librarian or Principal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Qualifications Required<\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • College graduate is preferable.<\/li>\n
    • Fluent in written and spoken English.<\/li>\n
    • Computer skills.<\/li>\n
    • Experience working with children and teens in an educational or library setting.<\/li>\n
    • Strong organizational and supervisory skills, with the ability to lead small group activities like storytime and engage students effectively.<\/li>\n
    • Willingness to grow within the role and adapt to new challenges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
