School Nurse Full Time

The purpose:

As a school nurse, your mission is to play a vital role in promoting and maintaining the physical and mental health of our school community. You are committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care, and serving as an advocate for the health needs of students and Staff.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Maintain availability and promptly respond to emergency and first aid situations.
• Provide immediate intervention and promptly contact parents or guardians.
• Coordinate transportation to appropriate medical facilities for students and staff as needed.
• Administer necessary medical care to students and staff as required.
• Screen new student applications/health forms for vaccination requirements and potential health issues.
• Enter student health information into the school database and request annual updates from parents of students with health issues or allergies.
• Develop care plans for students with ongoing conditions, chronic illnesses, and disabilities.
• Conduct hearing, vision, and other health screenings to identify potential health problems in their early stages.
• Collaborate with teachers, school administrators, and other staff regarding student care.
• Manage and administer medications stored in the clinic, following physicians’ or parents’ instructions for non-prescribed medications.
• Maintain and monitor students’ vaccination records.
• Educate students and staff on health procedures and promote healthy habits such as proper nutrition and hygiene.
• Provide basic healthcare to students and staff in cases of injury or acute illness.
• Update students’ medical histories regularly.
• Ensure the school environment is safe for students and staff; preventing communicable diseases.
• Implement measures to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 and perform other duties as requested by the school director.
• Cover Head Nurse duties in her absence.
• Provide healthcare coverage during CCA and Athletics activities as needed.
• Be on duty during Summer School
• Manage all staff health insurance matters.
• Ensure healthcare coverage for field trips and overnight trips as required.
• Coordinate coverage for weekend sports activities in collaboration with the Athletics Director and CCA Coordinator.
• Manage all staff health insurance claims.

Qualifications required:

• Nursing Diploma
• Proven 3 years experience as a Nurse (preferably in Pediatrics Health)
• Excellent written and verbal communication to interact effectively with students, staff and parents (fluent English & French)
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.
• Compassionate and empathetic approach in providing care and support.
